작업 위험도는 높지만 수익성은 낮다. 사람을 구하기 어려운데다 인건비 부담도 작지 않다. 납품 구조마저 복잡하다. 그동안 철근 가공산업의 한계로 꼽혀왔던 것들이다.철근 가공·조립 부문 스마트팩토리 스타트업인 로보콘의 반창완 대표(사진)는 시장의 이 같은 문제를 기술로 해결할 수 있다고 믿는다. 그는 최근 한국경제신문과의 인터뷰에서 “건설, 특히 골조 공정 중 철근 가공 영역은 주로 사람의 경험에만 의존해와 그동안 발전이 더뎠다”며 “철강 가공·조립 공정에 자동화 솔루션을 도입하면 수익성을 크게 높일 수 있다”고 자신했다.

Work in the rebar processing industry has long been characterized by high risk, low profitability, and a complex supply chain. Labor shortages and rising wages only add to the burden. These structural limitations have hindered innovation in the industry—until now. Changwan Ban, CEO of Robocon, a smart factory startup specializing in automated rebar processing and assembly, believes these challenges can be solved with technology. In a recent interview with The Korea Economic Daily, Ban stated, “The construction industry—especially the rebar processing phase within structural work—has heavily relied on manual labor and workers’ experience, which has slowed progress.” He added, “By introducing automation into the rebar processing and assembly stages, we can significantly enhance profitability and productivity.”
